Metekel Humanistic and Development Initiative
The Metekel Humanistic and Development Initiative is a legally recognized for non-profit, non-political, non-religious and Humanistic-development-oriented Ethiopian Residents’ Humanitarian and development initiative, which is registered and certified by the FDRE Authority for Civil Society Organizations-AfCSO, with registration number of 5369, based on Proclamation number 1113/2011 (1113/2019). The initiative also has its own Establishment legal Document, Minute, and bylaw, which is approved and registered by FDRE Agency for Civil Society Organizations. The Initiative has opened its head office at Addis Ababa since August 2021.
INTERVENTION AREA
MHDI was established as a response to provide humanitarian assistance to IDPs and people in need at Metekel& Awi Zones. In addition, the initiative also has established to promote development activities that will change lives of rural communities of Metekel & Awi Zones and also contributes few to SDGs of the county. Therefore, geographically, the Initiative operates in two regions, namely Benishangul-Gumuz and Amhara regions, with a focus to two Zones: Metekel Zone in BG and Awi zone in Amhara region
SCOPE OF WORK
As its name shows, Metekel Humanistic and Development Initiative-MHDI is a humanistic and development initiative. Therefore, the initiative focuses on the THREE critical nexus areas for its influencing, advocacy and lobbying work to complement Country Programme and contribute to global advocacy priorities of:
- Humanitarian assistance to disaster affected refugees and IDPs
- Peace building and human right protection that focuses on disadvantaged and the minority and marginalized groups
- Promotes local community development, focusing on improved agricultural technology promotion, livelihood, women& Youth empowerment and environmental protection
